Oh me oh my - let's blame anyone but ourselves

The article I'm quooting is here.

By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer 13 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The next president will inherit a record budget deficit of $482 billion, according to a new Bush administration estimate released Monday. The administration said the deficit was being driven to an all-time high by the sagging economy and the stimulus payments being made to 130 million households in an effort to keep the country from falling into a deep recession.

Well, if I am reading this correctly, the deficit has absolutely nothing to do with the war, which is costing $320 billion a year the past 6 years. Nope, the war has not had any impact on our economy, legal or not. Arrrgggghhhhh!!!

Plus, let's face it, he's blaming us for deciding to send out "stimulus payments"! I don't recall even thinking about asking for that - they were telling us that if we spent it there would be no need of a deficit. "When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn?"

Someone new to think about 2008

Bob Barr. I've just briefly looked at this guy - some things are impressive, others - well, let's just say he isn't the classic libertarian. He's still extremely legalistic. I probably won't be able to vote for him because of his legalistic nature, but I can't vote for McCain because he's openly re-writing history (AKA lying), and I'm still struggling with Obama because he's not talking about what he will do with my issues (education, infrastructure, stopping the fences between us and Mexico, etc etc). He's doing great at simply ignoring these issues - good politically, but lousy for voters who prefer to be informed.

He's right about Waco, but he's way off on marriage and religion in the military. How to deal with this apparent contradiction in honest thinking?

EDIT A fine reader asked me to look into the Green Party nominees for president. I certainly will! In the past the seemed to have a narrow platform, but I will look into anything at this point. I am intrigued by the fact that both the prez and vice prez nominees are women. Very cool.
